27.11.2020 Lindemans Brewery scores another hat-trick at Brussels Beer Challenge
The jury of the international beer competition Brussels Beer Challenge has awarded Lindemans Old Gueuze Cuvée René with silver in the category "Old style Gueuze". Lindemans SpontanBasil and GingerGueuze also claimed silver and bronze in their respective categories. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the beer competition awards ceremony took place online for a week.
Old Gueuze Cuvée René (6% vol), recently voted 'World's Best Gueuze' at the World Beer Awards, is a blend of a 3-year-old lambic and a lambic of at least a year old, matured in oak barrels. This deeply satisfying gueuze has a tart, complex, well-balanced taste combined with a smooth dry finish.
Lindemans 'Botanical Lambics', a series of old gueuzes with a spicy twist full of fresh herbs, conquered the hearts of the jury. SpontanBasil (6% vol) received a silver medal in the "Herb & Spice" category. This masterpiece, the result of a unique collaboration between Lindemans and the Danish Mikkeler Brewery, is an assemblage of 1 and 2 year old oak aged lambic enriched with fresh basil. The result is an intriguing and intricate combination of flavours, rounded off with a dry and freshly sour finish.
The botanical GingerGueuze (6% vol) completes the hat-trick with a bronze. This unique Old Gueuze combines 1 to 3 year old aged lambic with fresh Thai ginger.
To ensure that the competition was organised in the safest way possible, the 9th Brussels Beer Challenge took place in Brussels instead of Hasselt, from October 30 to November 5. No fewer than 1500 beers took part in this annual beer competition.
