Lindemans Brewery: a lambic legacy for over 200 years
Since 1822, Lindemans Brewery has been crafting authentic Belgian lambic beer in the heart of the Pajottenland. What began as a small farm brewery has grown into the world’s largest family-owned lambic brewery, yet our commitment to tradition remains unchanged.
Explore the life of a lambic brewer in the 1900s
The life of a lambic brewer in Belgium’s Senne River Valley is not an easy one. Perhaps that is one reason why there are fewer than 12 lambic breweries remaining! Early mornings, cold winter weather and a reliance on the natural environment are just a few of the challenges that brewers like René Lindemans, representing the 5th generation of the Lindemans family, have faced. Learn more about the life of a lambic brewer as told by René.Â
Our history
Our family started brewing authentic lambic beer in Vlezenbeek, Belgium, in 1822 — shortly after the marriage of Joos Frans Lindemans and Francisca Vandersmissen. What began as a way to refresh field workers soon became a passion.

In the evenings, after long days ploughing the land, Joos and Francisca brewed lambic together. During winter, when farm work slowed, their workers joined them in the small brewery. What started as a hobby quickly became the farm’s main activity.
Since 1822, six generations have carried forward this craft, first as farmer-brewers, and since the 1950s, as dedicated brewers. Under their care, Lindemans has grown into one of the leading lambic producers in Pajottenland and the world. This is our story. And every bottle tells it.

Our breweries in Vlezenbeek and Ruisbroek
Lindemans operates two breweries, each with its own purpose and character. Our historic lambic brewery in Vlezenbeek, Belgium remains the beating heart of our lambic tradition. Here, we continue to brew beer through the process of spontaneous fermentation, just as we’ve done for more than 200 years.
In 2022, we opened our Satellite Brewery in Ruisbroek. This state of the art facility was designed to meet growing demand for our mixed fermentation beers and other innovations. Two breweries, one vision.
Lindemans Brewery's Vlezenbeek location in Belgium is where lambic tradition comes alive. Since 1822, this historic lambic brewery has served as the home of Lindemans lambic production, where spontaneous fermentation and traditional brewing methods create some of Belgium's most sought after beers.Â
The Vlezenbeek lambic brewery houses a room of massive oak foeders where our beer ages slowly, developing the complex flavours and natural carbonation that define authentic Belgian lambic beer. The brewhouse features towering copper tuns and vats, as well as two coolships. The modern production facilities have been expanded multiple times, allowing us to export to 50+ countries and produce new, mixed fermentation styles. Every corner of our historic lambic brewery tells the story of Lindemans' commitment to preserving our brewing heritage for future generations.

We also brew mixed fermentation beer styles, like our Tarot series, and our latest innovation: alcohol free Kriek 0,0% and Pecheresse 0,0%. Â
Lindemans Satellite Brewery includes a modern brewhouse, event facility with full catering kitchen and bar, meeting rooms and workspaces for 10+ employees. These facilities can be booked for corporate events and meetings.Â
Brewing lambic through sustainable practices
Our commitment to sustainability is quite literally built from the ground up. Every bottle of Lindemans beer begins 90 meters underground, where pure well water waits in the darkness beneath our brewery. This isn't just our water source—it's a reminder that we're borrowing from the earth, and we take that responsibility seriously by reusing that precious water up to four times and capturing rainwater for everything we can.Â
Â
Local farmers feed their livestock with Lindemans’ spent grain, continuing a relationship that has existed for generations. We've banished plastic from our packaging and embrace organic ingredients whenever we can find them. Our glass bottles live many lifetimes, and our proper solar plant contributes about 35% of the energy that keeps our installations running. Even the warmth from our brewing process circles back to heat our building. At Lindemans Brewery, sustainability isn't a program—it's how we've always done things, because we know this land and its resources needs to be here for the next generation of brewers.Â
Meet our Brewmasters
Peter Renders is the second generation of his family to lead brewing efforts at Lindemans Brewery, our historic lambic brewery in Vlezenbeek. He follows in the footsteps of his father Robert, who served as Head of Production for many years before him. Since taking the helm in 2002, Peter has been the driving force behind countless innovations, working alongside Dirk and Geert Lindemans to honour the lambic tradition while pushing boundaries. His expertise and instinct for lambic brewing are irreplaceable, making him not just a master of the craft, but a guardian of everything that makes Lindemans Brewery unique.
In 2015, Filip Pilet arrived as a blender in the production department, and it didn't take long for his natural talent to become clear. Under Peter's mentorship, Filip honed his skills over several years before earning his place as co-Brewmaster at our lambic brewery —a testament to his dedication and enthusiasm. Together, they're up before dawn each brewing season, coaxing magic from the brew kettles with precision and passion. Peter and Filip aren't just the heartbeat of our lambic brewing operations—they're the soul of Lindemans Brewery itself. If you're lucky enough to cross paths with them during your visit, don't miss the chance to say hello.
