Our brewers’ secret

We revived a centuries-old Brussels tradition by blending young lambic with brown candied sugar. This simple yet ingenious touch softens lambic’s natural tartness, creating the iconic sweet-sour harmony that Faro is beloved for. Lindemans Faro-Lambic is a recipe our family proudly brought back to life in 1978 — and it’s still crafted with the same care today.

Faro beer came to life as the sweet answer to lambic’s acidity

Faro beer came to life as the sweet answer to lambic’s acidity

Lambic is one of the oldest beers in the world — admired by many, though its sharp tartness wasn’t for everyone. To soften that edge, brewers began adding candied sugar, and Faro beer was born. This sweet-sour revelation dates back to the time of Bruegel. Some even joke that without Faro, his paintings might never have left the flea market! Once a Brussels favorite, Faro nearly disappeared until our family proudly revived it in 1978. Today, Lindemans Faro-Lambic is still the perfect beer to enjoy after a ride or a workout — just like the Belgian field workers who loved it centuries ago.
