What makes Gueuze Dark Cuvée René truly stand out? Its bold character and beautifully dark colour. It all begins with a surprising twist on tradition. While lambic is typically brewed with unmalted wheat, this limited edition lambic uses dark, roasted wheat to contribute both flavour and colour. After two years of aging in oak foeders, this lambic beer is refined for a one more year in 20-year-old oak cognac barrels. This unique process not only gives our Gueuze Dark Cuvée René its deep amber brown glow, but also delivers a powerful yet elegant flavour—where the fresh-sour vibrancy of lambic meets the subtle cognac notes.

This exceptional Gueuze was crafted in honour of René Lindemans, born in 1939 and the fifth generation of the Lindemans family. A true visionary, René was the driving force behind the brewery’s innovation and expansion. Together with his brother Nestor, he introduced bold ideas that pushed boundaries while staying rooted in tradition. His legacy is one of vision, courage and creativity, and continues to inspire everything we do today.

To celebrate his 85th birthday, we created this limited-edition Gueuze—only 20,000 bottles. Naturally refermented in the bottle and aged for three years, including one year in 20-year-old cognac barrels, Gueuze Dark Cuvée René is a beer that blends tradition with innovation. The dark colour from roasted wheat is a subtle nod to René’s creative legacy & innovative mindset.
