21.11.2023 Lindemans shines at the 2023 Brussels Beer Challenge with gold and silver

The winners of this year’s Brussels Beer Challenge were announced at the Horeca Expo trade fair, held from 19 - 22 November in Ghent. The Lindemans Brewery was the proud recipient of two awards. Goyck was proclaimed the very best in the category ‘Speciality Beer: Other Sour Ale’, and Lindemans Oude Gueuze Cuvée René was honoured with a silver medal in the category ‘Speciality Beer: Old style Gueuze-Lambic’.

Goyck is a blend of Toots, a top-fermented beer produced by Goyck-based brewer Koenraad Goddeau and Lindemans lambic beer, a spontaneous fermentation beer. The beer is typified by its slightly cloudy, golden-blond colour. In the nose, this beer gives off a slightly malty fragrance, combined with quasi-hoppy undertones and notes of citrus in general, and grapefruit in particular. A sip instantly yields a pleasantly light and refreshing taste, leading up to a mellow, bitter and dry finish.

Lindemans Oude Gueuze Cuvée René earned the brewery a silver medal. Earlier this year, at the World Beer Awards 2023, this beer was proclaimed the world’s best in the category ‘Sour & Wild Beers - ‘Gueuze’. This traditional Oude Gueuze is the delectable result of a masterful blend of three-year-old and one-year-old lambic beer. The beer has a clear and light golden body, a sophisticated aroma, a refreshing, slightly sour flavour and a dry and distinctive after-taste that lingers on the palate.

CEOs Dirk and Geert Lindemans proudly received the awards at the Horeca Expo in Ghent. Dirk Lindemans: “Looking back at the many distinctions we earned last year, when we celebrated our 200th anniversary, fills us with pride. This year, we are also delighted to have been conferred some wonderful prizes. Quality and innovation are our biggest drivers, which has resulted in a trophy cabinet literally bursting at the seams and a wide range of distinctive beers.”

Geert Lindemans adds: “We are extremely pleased that Goyck was once again conferred a first prize. This blend of Koenraad Goddeau’s Toots beer and Lindemans lambic has since become the defining beer in its category and now has the status of a true beer for connoisseurs.”

Lindemans beers are available in Belgium and internationally at specialised off-licences, supermarkets, restaurants and pubs, and can also be obtained online from the brewery’s online shop (lindemansshop.com).

The Brussels Beer Challenge, which was organised in Belgium’s capital city for the first time in 2012, rapidly evolved into one of the world’s most important and prestigious beer competitions. This year, a panel of 95 renowned jury members from all over the world assessed almost 2,000 beers. The beers are grouped into various categories according to their style, origin and specific characteristics. The three best beers in each category are awarded either a gold, silver or bronze medal.
